Life Cautiously Returns To Normal In Beirut
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - It was nightlife as usual for Beirut on Sunday night. Clubs were blaring the latest hit songs from their speakers as clubbers moved to the beats. Club owners say it is the first full weekend that the city since the 34-day war between Israel and Hezbollah ended August 14. "We are pleased to see people out and about in the city after such a long layoff," club owner Ahmed said. "I need the money since I had closed down my club for over a month because of the bombings and now I am happy to see all the people out and having fun ... I also like to see their money, too," Ahmed grins. The prices have also gone down since the end of the fighting. Inflation had hit many of the local pubs and restaurants during the war, driving prices way up. "It's nice to see that the Lebanese are coming out and it isn't just the foreign correspondents that here," Ahmed continues. Many of the journalists are expected to leave Lebanon in the coming week as the tenuous ceasefire seems to be holding.
