Hezbollah Survey Almost Finished
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - Hezbollah announced Saturday that they have almost completed a survey of the damage inflicted by Israel in the southern Beirut suburbs. This comes as the Lebanese government is still way behind on their assessment of the damage. Jihad Al Bina, the militia's reconstruction organization, has set up headquarters in one of the buildings spared by the 34-day war between Hezbollah and Israel in Haret Hreik. According to AFP, the organization has maps that divide the city into grids that show which areas of the city were completely destroyed or only partially damaged. "We have divided the southern suburb into 86 zones and each has been entrusted to a team consisting of an engineer and three assistants in charge of evaluating the damage," Ghanem Slim, coordinator for the assessment, told AFP. With the survey almost complete, Slim said that 182 buildings with 4,000 apartments were totally destroyed and another 192 were damaged in the bombings.
