Israel Still Conducting Raids In Lebanon
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - Despite a ceasefire, which calls for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon with the arrival of international forces in the country, Israel still occupies nine positions in southern Lebanon. The troops remain in the country two weeks after the supposed cessation of violence on August 14. There are nightly incursions into border villages by Israeli troops. An official, who refused to be named, told AF that these missions are "taking advantage of respect for the ceasefire from the Lebanese side." Lebanese troops have continued to march south for the first time in nearly 40 years in compliance with the UN-brokered ceasefire that went into affect August 14. The Lebanese government has yet to deploy troops directly along the border with the Jewish state. Lebanon is awaiting a more substantial deployment of international troops before they take up positions on the disputed border with Israel. International troops are expected to begin arriving in Lebanon en masse within days.
