Fire Damages Historic Russian Cathedral
Nicole King - All Headline News Staff Writer St. Petersburg, Russia (AHN) - A fire in the main rooftop dome of the 19th century Trinity Cathedral has collapsed the dome. The fire burned through scaffolding outside the cathedral. The historic cathedral was undergoing renovations. The fire seems to have started in scaffolding that had been set up on the outside of the church. A helcopter was brought in to help fight the flames. Emergency workers and church employees worked to remove icons and other religious articles of historic value. Church officials say most of the valuable icons and other items were saved. The cathedral was consecrated in 1835. There were no reports of injuries and the cause of the fire is not known.
