Israel: Blockade To Continue Until Borders Are Secure
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - Israel has again refused to lift the blockade on Lebanon unless forces are deployed at all border crossings with Lebanon as a precaution against weapons smuggling. Tel Aviv remains firm in their desire to see international forces along the border between Syria and Lebanon. Damascus has said that if troops are put on their border they will shut down the border between Lebanon and Syria, basically shutting of the country from the outside world. Lebanon has said that it is willing to deploy troops along their eastern border with Syria in an attempt to stop illegal weapons shipments from entering the country. "The ceasefire calls for an international arms embargo against Hezbollah and the resolution of the ceasefire says clearly that the Lebanese army and the international forces must be at the different border crossings to prevent illicit arms transfers to Hezbollah, so Israel will be willing to allow for unfettered access in and out of Lebanon the minute those international and Lebanese forces are enforcing the arms embargo," Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev said, reported The Associated Press.
