UN: More Than 200,000 Sri Lankans Displaced By Fighting
Som Patidar - All Headline News Staff Writer Geneva, Switzerland (AHN) - A UN agency informed Friday that more than 200,000 Sri Lankan civilians are displaced by fighting between government forces and Tamil rebels since April. Speaking at a press conference in Geneva, UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) spokesperson Jennifer Pagonis also accepted that the UN through humanitarian agencies still couldn't reach all the locations where displaced people are residing. In the beginning of August, the UN agency estimated that more than 162,200 people had fled their homes but remained within Sri Lanka, while 6,672 became refugees in India's Tamil Nadu state.
