Iran Starts New Phase of Nuclear Program

Arak, Iran (AHN) - The president of Iran has started a new phase of that country's nuclear program just days before a U.N. deadline for Iran to stop uranium enrichment.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad toured the heavy-water reactor project site which is about 120 miles southwest of the capital of Tehran. Iran insists the move is only for electricity production and an Iranian official said the country would start up the heavy-water production, not the reactor.

Iran's deputy parliament speaker, Mohammad Reza Bahonar, said recently putting pressure on the country could prompt calls for Iran to pursue a weapons program.
