Lebanon's PM Says Army To Disarm Hezbollah
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - Lebanon made it clear Thursday that the newly revamped and bolstered United Nations force in the country will take no part in the disarmament of Hezbollah. Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica that it is the responsibility of the Lebanese military to carry out the disarming process. "It's clear that the Lebanese army will carry out this mission," the Prime Minister said. "The multinational force is not supposed to do that and should not bother itself with it. Hezbollah is a political party represented in the government and it agreed to the seven-point plan presented to the UN by the Lebanese government," the Lebanese leader continued. Siniora added that he hopes the Lebanese army will become the only military entity to be recognized by citizens in the south. Hezbollah has repeated that they will not disarm in light of what they perceive to be a continued Israeli threat against Lebanon.
