Israel's Governing Coalition In Trouble

Jones - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Israel's governing Kadima-Labor coalition is in danger of collapsing amid mounting pressure for a public inquiry into the handling of the war with Hezbollah. Most of Israel's public has already passed judgment after their leadership failed to deliver the promised victory over the Lebanese terror group and to adequately care for those most affected by Hezbollah's firing of nearly 4,000 rockets during the 34-day conflict. According to recent opinion polls, a majority of Israelis believe Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defense Minister Amir Peretz should pay for the debacle by being removed from office. Having attempted to remain above the fray, Knesset opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu has joined calls for a parliamentary commission of inquiry. Likud Party colleagues had criticized Netanyahu for not going on the attack sooner. Speaking on Israel's Channel 2 News Tuesday night Netanyahu said, "I say this unexcitedly, but there must be a probe. The government itself said so. We have to prevent a hopeless situation the next time." e warned that if Israel "fails to draw lessons, not only will we have a second round [of violence] but it will end badly."
