Israeli Minister Warns Of Impending Iranian Attack
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Israel's Minister of Pensioner Affairs, Rafi Eitan, warned Tuesday that a conflict with Iran may be just around the corner, and that Israel must ready public bomb shelters and make other home front preparations now. Eitan told Israel Radio, "We are liable to face an Iranian missile attack. The Iranians have said very clearly that if they come under attack, their primary target would be Israel." Eitan, a member of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's security cabinet and one of Israel's most storied spymasters, was referring to mounting speculation that Tehran's defiance over its nuclear program could lead to US military action against Iran. On Monday Iran turned away UN inspectors from one of its main nuclear facilities in the city of Natanz. Eitan's call to action came amid mounting criticism of Olmert and his government for failing to adequately care for the home front during the recent war with Hezbollah. Over one million residents of northern Israel were forced to either flee their homes on their own expense, or survive in dirty, stuffy bomb shelters for up to 34 days.
