Palestinian Groups Deny Renewing Truce
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Several Palestinian terror groups Thursday denied reports that they had agreed with PLO Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to extend a temporary cessation of violence against Israel. While addressing new presidential guard recruits in Gaza, Abbas announced that he had reached a deal with the various factions to renew a unilateral truce that has ostensibly been in place for months. However, representatives of Hamas, the Popular Resistance Committees and the Al Aqsa Brigades military wing of Abbas's own Fatah faction rebuffed the leaders statement, saying they knew nothing of any new deal. Islamic Jihad was never party to the ceasefire, which was anything but for Israelis living withing rocket range of the Gaza Strip. Ynet later reported that Abbas had in fact not even met with leaders of the various groups while in Gaza, but had rather discussed the matter with Egyptian mediators. Sources within the groups acknowledged informal discussions about a truce deal, but insisted Israel must be party to it this time around.
