3 People Trapped By Snow Are Found Dead On South African Mountain
Yvonne Lee - All Headline News Staff Reporter Johannesburg, South Africa (AHN) - Three people in South Africa are found dead after they were trapped by snow on Mount Fletcher. South African Broadcasting Corporation reports during its broadcast, "'Today's freezing weather in the area is probably the cause of their death." Heavy snowfall has closed roads and put roofs at risk of collapse in Eastern Cape province. The road connecting Eastern Cape and Lesotho has been shut down, and the city of Kokstad has been cut off by the inclement weather. Authorities are trying to clear roads blocked by snowfall, which fell overnight in the south-central coastal province. Tshepo Machaea, a spokesman for the government's traffic safety program, "Arrive Alive," tells SAPA news service, "The snow has formed hard ice. It's terrible, it can't break." An August cold snap has brought ice, snow and heavy rains that have killed at least six people, and resulted in the evacuation of more than 7,000 people.
