Analysts Say Hizbollah Likely Stronger
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - With fighting seemingly at an end, the reconstruction process in Lebanon has officially begun. Spearheading the efforts is Hizbollah, the militant group that many believe helped to precipitate the Israeli attack on the Middle Eastern nation. Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah offered money for "decent and suitable furniture" and a year's rent on a house to any Lebanese who lost his home in the month-long war, in a Monday speech. Most Lebanese view Hizbollah as an efficient social service network, which was seen throughout the nation on Tuesday as the militant group was at the forefront of the cleanup and humanitarian efforts. Rami Khouri, a columnist for the Daily Star in Beirut said that Nasrallah "seemed to take on the veneer of a national leader rather than the head of one group in Lebanon's rich mosaic of political parties. His prominence is one of the important political repercussions of this war." Analysts believe the war will help buttress Hizbollah and will give them the opportunity to continue to be a leading force in politics in the war-torn nation.
