Iranian Cleric Warns Of Ballistic Missile Use Against Israel If Attacked
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Tehran, Iran (AHN) - An attack by the United States and Israel against Iran would have catastrophic consequences against Tel Aviv as Tehran will fire ballistic missile on the Jewish capital, a top hard line cleric in Iran warned Tuesday. Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, a leading hard line cleric said, "If they (the United States and Israel) want to carry out an aggression against Iran, they should be afraid of the day that our 2,000-kilometer (1,250 mile) range missile will hit the heart of Tel Aviv." Khatami is also a member of the country's Assembly of experts. According to a report by the AFP, the cleric was referring to Iran's Shahab-3 missiles which has a range of 1,250 miles and can hit any part of Israel. He adds, "The 70-kilometer (43-mile) range Hezbollah missiles turned Israeli cities into ghost cities." "(US President George W.) Bush and (Israeli Prime Minister Ehud) Olmert should learn their lesson and understand that playing with Islam is like messing with the lion's tail." Hezbollah militants, which is allegedly backed by Iran and Syria claims a strategic victory Monday after a cease-fire brokered by the United Nations Security Council took effect ending a month-long confrontation between the Israeli army and the guerrillas.
