Report: Lebanon Planning Violation Of Ceasefire
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Beirut is working out a compromise deal with Hezbollah that would violate UN Security Council Resolution 1701 by allowing the terror group to keep its weapons indefinitely, according to the Arabic-language newspaper Al-Hayat. The London-based daily reported that the terms of the deal would require Hezbollah to keep its weapons deployed south of the Litani River hidden from UN observers. The decision was scheduled to be voted on by the Lebanese cabinet Tuesday. Resolution 1701 states that UN peacekeepers and the Lebanese army should be the only armed elements in southern Lebanon, and urges immediate implementation of Resolution 1559, which demands the disarmament of Hezbollah. On Sunday a government meeting on disarmament was called off after Hezbollah's two cabinet ministers communicated to Prime Minister Fuad Siniora that the group is not ready to consider the option.
