Gunmen Kidnap Four Foreign Oil Workers In Nigeria
Yvonne Lee - All Headline News Staff Reporter Port Harcourt, Nigeria (AHN) - Gunmen kidnap four oil workers, including an American, two Britons and a German, from a nightclub in Nigeria. Also on Monday, two oil workers - a Belgian and a Moroccan - who were abducted last week are released. Earlier in the day, three Filipino hostages were freed. Militants have been targeting the petroleum industry with kidnappings and sabotage attacks. They say the oil-rich southeastern delta does not benefit from the industry. More than 14 kidnappings have taken place in the last week alone. Most victims are released unharmed. However, the attacks have reduced Nigerian oil production by more than 20 percent this year. In the latest incident, a witness says more than 10 people in military dress dragged a group of foreigners out of the club. George Ani, a city driver, tells The Associated Press, "They were shooting, and everyone started screaming... They took some expatriates, but I don't know how many. I lay on the floor of my car until it was finished." State police spokeswoman Irejua Barasua identifies the American as Royce Antony Parait, and the German as Gerhard Ezeth. The two Britons, Brayan Fogerty and John Gruyan, are employed by Halliburton Co. and Smith International unit Smith Bits, respectively.
