Archbishop Fasts And Prays For Middle East
Megan Shannon - All Headline News Staff Writer (AHN) - Archbishop John Sentamu, who spoke out against President Bush's refusal to call for a ceasefire in the Middle East conflict, will fast for one week in solitude for the people in the Middle East. Sentamu will also sleep in the 13th century cathedral of York Minister in England. He said he will hold prayer every hour during the next week for those who wish to prey for people affected by the conflict. In a statement Sentamu said, "In the Middle East there are thousands of people sleeping in churches, bunkers, underground car parks and shelters in an attempt to escape from the bombs and rockets that are falling on both sides of the border. This act is a rallying call to people of all faiths and none, to encourage them to feel that there is something that can be done." Sentamu is also encouraging people to give up one meal and give the money to a charity working in the Middle East.
