Congo Election Invesigated
Megan Shannon - All Headline News Staff Writer (AHN) - Half a dozen election officials have been arrested for allegedly rigging the recent election in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the first election in 40 years. The officials were taken to court Thursday after reportedly being caught red handed. They are being accused of falsifying voting documents. The 15 presidential candidates are also accusing them of bribing voters and said there were "major irregularities" in the vote count. 17,000 UN peacekeepers protected the 25 million voters in the election. They are voted for more than 30 presidential candidates and 9,000 candidates for Parliament. The Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission Apollinaire Malu Malu told AFP News Agency that an investigation into the case will hopefully "clarify the situation."
