Gunmen Free Italian Woman Kidnapped In Haiti
Yvonne Lee - All Headline News Staff Reporter Port-Au-Prince, Haiti (AHN) - Gunmen in Haiti free an Italian women held in captivity for three days. However, Gigliola Martino's husband was killed by the kidnappers. Her nephew, Paollo Vitiello, says the 65-year-old is in good health. United Nations officials did not provide details on how Martino gained her freedom. U.N. police spokesman Fred Blaze says she was released on Thursday. Authorities believe she was abducted for ransom money. Armed men shot Martino's husband, Guido Vitiello, at the couple's villa in Port-au-Prince on Monday. The 67-year-old businessman died from his injuries at a hospital. Martino has lived in Haiti for about 30 years. She was kidnapped once before last year. Since May, dozens of foreigners and Haitians have been abducted.
