Cuba To Celebrate Castro's Birthday With Major Concert
Shaveta Bansal - All Headline News Staff Writer Havana, Cuba (AHN) - Supporters of ailing Cuban Leader Fidel Castro are preparing to celebrate their leader's 80th birthday on Saturday. The concert which begins 8:30 pm (0030 GMT Sunday) in Havana and will last throughout the night. Dozens of musicians will perform on the stage in a 'Cantata for the Country' honoring the communist leader. Rehearsals and preparations for public displays of affection for their president had been encouraged in Havana and other cities of the Caribbean Island. Meanwhile, a high-level Communist Party official stressed that Castro was 'successfully' recuperating from surgery and that life on the Americas' only communist island was "completely normal." Last week, after the Cuban leader underwent an intestinal surgery, the government announced that the official celebration of his August 13 birthday would be postponed until December 2, the 50th anniversary of his return from exile, when he launched the Cuban revolution.
