Brief Opening Of Gaza Strip's Rafah Border Was Made This Morning
Patricia Shehan - All Headline News Staff Writer London, England (AHN) - According to the BBC News, the Gaza Strip's Rafah border crossing, along the Gaza-Egypt border, was briefly opened on Thursday for only a few hours and only in one direction. The European Union helped negotiate the deal between officials from the Israelis and the Palestinians, although it was only going to be allowed for a few hours. During this time span, approximately only 1000 of 4000 people who were at the border were able to cross into Egypt from Gaza, which included business persons, students, visitors and people in need of medical attention. Due to security, the crossing that was briefly opened was closed again just hours later. The Rafah crossing is the only exit from the area without crossing into Israel's land. It has only been opened once before in July, since the border was originally closed in June by Israel, when Palestinian military attacks on the army station close to Gaza ended with two soldiers who died and one who was taken into captivity.
