Israel Paying High Toll For Its Morality, Reservists Say
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - A day after 15 Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers were killed and another 25 wounded, reservists complained Thursday that Israel is paying a steep price for its deep sense of morality when conducting war. Most of those killed and wounded Wednesday were reservists, men with families who have been sent to defend the nation's northern regions against a Hezbollah enemy bent on destruction. They believe in the mission, but are unhappy about their lives being put at great risk in order to protect Lebanese life and property. Greg Roitman, 27, a reserve paratrooper who was lightly wounded during fierce fighting in the village of Dibel, recounted how the nature of the village necessitated the take-over of a house as an observation point. It also made an easy target for Hezbollah fighters, who brought the structure down on top of the soldiers in a barrage of anti-tank missiles. From his hospital bed in Safed Roitman told Ynet, "What really bothered us is that in all of the villages we passed through the houses are standing and are untouched. The IDF's morality during war is exacting a very high price. We can flatten the territory, without ground forces, but from the air." Despite Israel's great care in avoiding civilian casualties, the international community has grown increasingly incensed with Israel over the mounting Lebanese death toll. Hezboll |
