Israeli Lawmaker: Hamas Plans To Emulate Hezbollah
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - A senior Israeli lawmaker warned on Wednesday that Hamas-affiliated terrorists are planning to escalate their war against southern Israel based on Hezbollah's example. Israel has been engaged in a large-scale anti-terror operation in the Gaza Strip since June 25, when Palestinian terrorists crossed into southern Israel and abducted a young Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldier and killed two other members of his tank crew. But Hamas and its allies in the Islamic Jihad have been unable to inflict the same kind of destruction on southern Israel as that being wrought by Hezbollah on the Galilee region. Yisrael Beiteinu Party chief Avigdor Lieberman told Israel's Arutz 7 Radio that the Gaza-based terrorists are looking to change that by smuggling hundreds of Katyusha and Grad-class missiles into the coastal strip. The more advanced missiles are considerably more accurate and carry a far more deadly warhead than the homegrown Kassam rockets, thousands of which have been fired from Gaza since Israel withdrew its civilians and soldiers out in August 2005. Even so, Lieberman chastised the local media for ignoring ongoing Kassam attacks, insisting they herald the coming of a southern Lebanon-type war in southern Israel.
