Saudi King Visits Turkey For First Time In 40 Years
Shaveta Bansal - All Headline News Staff Writer Ankara, Turkey (AHN) - Saudi King Abdullah arrived in Ankara Tuesday for a four-day official visit, the first by a reigning Saudi monarch in 40 years. The visit is seen as a move to bolster economic, strategic and political ties between the two nations. King Abdullah was honored at a state banquet hosted by Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer Tuesday, shortly after which he met Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul. The king's schedule for Wednesday called for meetings with business leaders and a tour of historic sites in Istanbul. The Saudi monarch was accompanied by a 300-strong delegation including ministers, government officials, members of the royal family and 45 businessmen. During the meeting with Erdogan, King Abdullah signed six economic cooperation agreements with Turkey. At a banquet hosted by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, the Monarch touched on the Lebanon agenda. "Perhaps the biggest proof of how our world is full of danger is the Israeli aggression that brotherly Lebanon is subjected to these days," Abdullah said. The delegation is expected to leave Turkey on August 11.
