Update: Israel Appoints New Commander Of Lebanon Operations
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Four weeks into its war with Hezbollah, Israel Tuesday appointed a new commander of its air, sea and land operations in Lebanon. An official statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that from this point forward, "General Moshe Kaplinsky will coordinate the IDF's land, air and sea operations in the Lebanese theater." Kaplinsky, chief deputy to IDF Chief of Staff Dan Halutz, will replace Maj.-Gen. Udi Adam as the director of Israel's war in Lebanon, though Adam has not officially been removed as head of the IDF's Northern Command. Senior military sources cited by Ha'aretz said Israel's political and military leaderships have grown increasingly dissatisfied with the IDF's combat performance in Lebanon, and believe Adam has lacked the aggressiveness and effective decision making needed to win the war. Halutz's promotion of Kaplinsky reportedly had the full backing of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defense Minister Amir Peretz, who were unhappy with Adam for publicly suggesting they were restraining the IDF in Lebanon for political reasons.
