Another Morning Of Heavy Fighting In Lebanon
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Three Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers were killed and six more were wounded during intense clashes with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon Tuesday morning. Nine terrorist gunmen were also killed, and five more were taken prisoner by the Israelis. Israel's casualties again resulted from Hezbollah's use of advanced anti-tank missiles believed to have been supplied by Iran and Syria. Israeli air and ground forces managed to destroy 13 Hezbollah rocket launchers during the operations. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's security cabinet is scheduled to meet Wednesday to discuss expanding Israel's ground incursion up to the Litani River, some 18 miles into Lebanese territory. Fearing that international diplomatic efforts will fail to eliminate the Hezbollah threat to northern Israel, Defense Minister Amir Peretz Tuesday said he had ordered the IDF to begin drawing up plans for the temporary occupation of parts of southern Lebanon. The aim, he said in remarks carried by Ynet, would be to clear the area of terrorist weapons, secure the release of two abducted IDF soldiers, and give Israel territorial flexibility to effectively respond to further Hezbollah aggression.
