Police Place Israeli Embassy In Manila Under Heightened Alert
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Manila, Philippines (AHN) - The police in the Philippines have ordered the deployment of additional troops to guard the Israeli Embassy in Manila. The Philippine National Police (PNP) placed the embassy under a heightened alert in anticipation of protest rallies against Israel's missile strikes on Lebanon which have prevented Filipinos from evacuating the war-torn country. Makati City police chief Superintendent Felipe Napoles Jr., said that aside from the six-man diplomatic security team from the PNP - Special Action Force, the embassy was provided 15 additional policemen from the station assuring 24-hour security for the mission. A total of 90 anti-riot policemen are on standby in front of the embassy, he said. Napoles confirms a women's group belonging to the multi-sectoral "Stop the War Coalition-Philippines," are scheduled to hold another protest rally in front of the embassy to continue denouncing Israel's military offensive in Lebanon. The group is condemning the forced evacuation of thousands of foreign nationals in the region including Filipino migrant workers. Napoles said, "So far, the rallies have been peaceful and they have been relatively small." He assured the protesters the police will maintain maximum tolerance during the rallies.
