Minister Urges Israel To Wage Real War
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Israeli Agricultural Minister Shalom Simhon Monday urged his government to approve a far more aggressive bombing campaign against Lebanon and the Hezbollah terrorist organization. Simhon, a member of Israel's Labor Party and resident of the battered northern region, said in an interview with Israel Radio, "Let's realize we are at war and conduct a war. We have to wage war like war and ensure the Israeli army returns victorious from Lebanon." Israeli warplanes blasted more than 150 targets throughout Lebanon overnight in response to Hezbollah missile strikes Sunday that killed 15 people in northern Israel. But Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Northern Command says approval for expanded war plans that it feels will bring victory in Lebanon is being delayed by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and his government, as it waits to gage the international reaction to those actions Israel has already taken. In an apparent jab at Vice Premier Shimon Peres's public relations activities, Simhon insisted Israel's "security won't be assured at cocktail parties."
