Elian Gonzalez Wishes Castro Speedy Recovery

Havana, Cuba (AHN) - One of Cuba's most well known residents is sending get well wishes to recovering Cuban President Fidel Castro.

Though his location and exact condition is unknown, Castro reportedly received a "Get Well" card from now 12-year-old Elian Gonzalez. The card addressed the 79-year-old as my "Dear Grandfather" and wished him many more happy birthdays after his 80th on Aug. 13. It was signed by the entire Gonzalez family.

Elian Gonzalez was the center of one of the most bitter struggles in recent history between Castro and Cuban exiles in Miami after he was shipwrecked and then rescued off the Florida coast in 1999. He was eventually returned to his Cuban father after U.S. agents raided and removed him from the home of relatives in Miami.
