Ethiopian Flood Kills 100
Nicole King - All Headline News Staff Writer Dire Dawa, Ethiopia (AHN) - At least 100 people are dead and officials fear several hundred could be after a river burst its banks in eastern Ethiopia. The flooding happened in the middle of the night when most residents were sleeping. Rescue operations are ongoing as bulldozers are being used to comb through the wreckage and recover bodies. Heavy rains more than likely caused the Dechatu River to overflow. Officials say 220 homes were destroyed and thousands of the city's 250,000 residents have been displaced. Vehicles, livestock, markets and shops were also either washed away or destroyed.
