China, Papua New Guinea Pledge Improved Ties
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (AHN) - The governments of China and Papua New Guinea on Sunday pledged to strengthen bilateral ties during the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing attended the celebration held in Papua's capital Port Moresby where he was welcomed by Prime Minister Michael Somareon. The prime minister acknowledged the benefits of his country's relations with Beijing and said bilateral cooperation between the two nations have expanded into all fields. China's assistance has improved the lives of many Papua New Guinean, he told Li. In April, China has proposed the development of island countries during the China-Pacific Island Countries Economic Development and Cooperation Forum. The proposal is expected to boost economic and social developments of island nations. During his meeting with Li, Somaereon pledged his government's continued adherence to its "one-China" policy and voiced his suggestion to further promote cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, investment, telecommunication, education and cultural exchanges. He told the visiting Chinese foreign minister that his country want to improve coordination and cooperation with Beijing in international affairs and promote the development of bilateral ties.
