12 IDF Reservists Killed In Hezbollah Strike
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Twelve Israeli soldiers were killed in a Hezbollah missile strike on northern Israel Sunday. Twelve others were wounded, with four of them listed in serious-to-critical condition. A security official cited by The Jerusalem Post described the incident as the "worst attack" since Hezbollah initiated hostilities against Israel more than three weeks ago. It was the largest single death toll in a Hezbollah attack to date. For more than 15 minutes, according to eye witnesses who spoke to Ha'aretz, Hezbollah poured rockets down on the community of Kfar Giladi, which was being used as a gathering point for Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reservists called up for duty on the northern border. Northern District Police Chief Maj.-Gen. Dan Ronen said in an interview with Army Radio, "It was a direct hit on a crowd of people." Shimon Abutbul, a rescue worker who was one of the first to arrive on the scene, said the carnage was "the worst I have seen" in the thousands of attacks Hezbollah has perpetrated against Israel in the past 26 days. Rescue efforts were reportedly carried out under heavy fire, though no additional casualties were reported.
