Full Recount Rejected By Mexican Court
Richard Rittierodt - All Headline News Staff Writer Mexico City, Mexico (AHN) - On Saturday, Mexican presidential candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador was denied a ballot by ballot recount by Mexico's top electoral court. Thousands of Obrador's supporters gathered in Mexico's central plaza and watched the court session on a huge screen. While the judges made their statements, the protesters loudly chanted, "Vote by vote!" However, the judges did leave open the possibility of a partial recount. The judges have until September 6 to either declare a winner in the presidential race or annul the elections. So far, tallies have shown that Felipe Calderon had about 240,000 more votes than Obrador in the elections, that saw over 41 million votes. According to Mexican law, ballot boxes can only be opened by authorities when there is conclusive evidence of irregularities or fraud. The protesters have been in the central park for about a week and insist that they will stay there until a full recount has been ordered.
