Two Bombs Injure 17 People In Southern Turkey

Adana police chief Mehmet Cebe tells The Associated Press the first explosion detonated in front of a bank on a busy road in Adana.

The second blast went off just minutes later at a construction site some 30 yards away. Eight police officers and two police cadets were injured in the explosion, along with five civilians.

Gov. Cahit Kirac says the first bomb was a percussion grenade, which makes a loud noise but causes minor damage.

He says the second device was a fragmentation bomb.

No one has claimed responsibility for the two explosions. In the past, Kurd separatists and leftist groups have conducted bomb attacks in the area.
