Gaza Death Toll At 162; Operation Summer Rain Continues
Matthew Borghese - All Headline News Staff Writer Gaza City, Gaza (AHN) - Israel has continued its offensive in the Gaza Strip, targeting militants in their operation to recover a kidnapped soldier. According to the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) a series of airstrikes aimed near the town of Rafah, killing five militants to prevent rocket attacks on southern Israel. The IDF is still striking "terrorist infrastructure" in Gaza, targeting offices of terror group Hamas, as well as other Palestinian militants in Operation Summer Rain, the mission to recover a 19-year-old soldier kidnapped in a cross-border raid. According to Reuters, at least 162 Palestinians have been killed since the operation began on June 25; half of which are civilians. The news agency says, Israel's offensive has increased pressure on Hamas, which rose to power in March, and had been under a Western aid embargo to try to force it to recognize Israel, renounce violence and accept peace deals.
