Israel Taking Threat to Tel Aviv Seriously
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Israel's Home Front Command is taking Hezbollah's threat to strike Tel Aviv very seriously, and has ordered residents of Israel's populous central region to acquaint themselves with the nearest bomb shelter. Speaking to reporters in northern Israel Thursday, Home Front Command chief Maj.-Gen. Yitzhak Girshon said Israelis living in the Greater Tel Aviv area would have greater warning of a rocket strike from emergency sirens than resident in the north, but cautioned that "protected places" must be located and prepared now. Hezbollah has repeatedly threatened to up the ante in the current round of fighting by targeting Tel Aviv and its suburbs, where more than two million Israelis live in close proximity. Military officials are now certain the terror group has missiles capable of reaching the city. After the northern port city of Haifa was attacked toward the beginning of the fighting, Israeli leaders warned that a strike on Tel Aviv would mean the end of any Israeli restraint and signal doomsday for Hezbollah and its supporters.
