The soldiers, which were accompanied by Coalition observers, struck a group in Ashulla "that allegedly conduct improvised-explosive-device attacks against coalition forces; traffic in weapons; and kidnap, torture and murder Iraqi citizens and Iraqi soldiers." According to a local Iraqi official, the cell is believed to have kidnapped and murdered at least 14 Iraqi soldiers in May alone. In the Rasheed section of Baghdad, captured two "primary targets," including one person believed to have launched "a mortar attack against Baghdad International Airport, transported weapons and IEDs, and participated in the murder of Iraqi citizens." A fourth raid captured a terror cell leader and two others, near the Ghazaliya section of the capital. According to the Pentagon, "this cell leader is believed to have conducted IED and rocket-propelled-grenade attacks against Iraqi and coalition forces; he also is believed to be involved in killing Iraqi citizens."
