132 Bangladeshis Arrive in Dhaka From Lebanon
Siddique Islam - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Dhaka, Bangladesh (AHN) - The first batch of 132 Bangladeshi people living in Lebanon arrived in Dhaka from the war-torn country by two flights on Sunday morning. A Qatar Airlines plane carrying the first batch of 42 evacuees landed at Zia International Airport in Dhaka at 7:20 am (Local time) while the second batch of 90 Bangladeshis arrived at 8:28 am (Local time) by Etihad Airlines. Of a total of 280 evacuated Bangladeshis first taken to Syria, 132 were brought back home with the help of the International Organization of Migrants (IOM). An estimated 10,000 Bangladeshis are living in Lebanon. The Bangladeshi repatriates said the IOM arranged their returns and provided them tickets and US $ $50 while the Bangladesh government through the Expatriate Welfare ministry provided them US$ 7.24 (Tk 500) at the ZIA. Sources in the IOM say the rest of the registered Bangladeshi nationals now staying in different transit camps in Syria would be brought home very shortly, depending on availability of flights.
