16 Indians Die In Bahrain Fire
Ankit Gupta - All Headline News Staff Writer Manama, Bahrain (AHN) - At least 16 Indians were killed and seven others injured when a major fire broke out in a building housing over 200 workers in Bahrain. The incident, reportedly caused by a short circuit, took place in Gudabiya area around 0230 hrs (local time). There were more than 200 people in the building when the mishap occurred. According to the Indian Ambassador to Bahrain, Balakrishnan Shetty, those killed were working for the Royal Towers Construction company. Most of the workers died as a result of suffocation, he added. Among those killed in the incident, most were from Tamil Nadu. The seven injured are being treated for burns. The remaining workers, who escaped the fire, have been shifted to a neighbouring gym. Indian authorities said that they were in constant touch with its mission in Bahrain following the death of the 16 Indians in a fire accident. "Our embassy with the cooperation of the Bahrain government is taking all the necessary actions," Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed said, reported Press Trust of India sources. He said India is in constant touch with its mission in Bahrain and that he has asked for a detailed report from Ambassador Balakrishan Shetty.
