Iranian President Bans Western Words
Nicole King - All Headline News Staff Writer Tehran, Iran - The president of Iran has ordered the government and cultural bodies to use modified Persian words to replace foreign words that have no equivalent in the language. For instance, "pizzas" will now be known as "plastic loaves". President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad issued the decree earlier this week and ordered all government agencies, newspapers, and publications to use words deemed more appropriate. The Persian Academy has introduced more than 2,000 words as alternatives for some foreign words that have become commonly used in the country. A "chat" will now be a "short talk" and a "cabin" will now be a "small room."
