Russia Fails To Recognize Hamas, Hezbollah As Terrorists
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Correspondent Moscow, Russia (AHN) - Russia on Friday published a list of groups throughout the world that it considers to be terrorist in nature. The anti-Israel Hamas and Hezbollah organizations did not make the cut. Among the 17 groups listed by the state-run Rossiiskaya Gazeta were Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, and a Pakistan-based group fighting to push India out of Kashmir. Federal Security Service official Yuri Sapunov, who heads Moscow's efforts against international terrorism, told Rossiiskaya Gazeta that the list "includes only those organizations which represent the greatest threat to the security of our country." Both Israel and the US have expressed frustration over Russia's long-standing failure to recognize Hezbollah, Hamas and other Palestinian groups as terrorists. Moscow angered Jerusalem earlier this year when it invited senior Hamas leaders for top-level talks following the terrorists' victory in Palestinian Authority parliamentary elections.
