Matthew Borghese - All Headline News Staff Writer Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (AHN) - Thousands of people have gathered in the capital to support President Joseph Kabila's reelection bid. In the first elections in 40 years, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) looks to heal wounds caused by a civil war. The election will involve 33 presidential candidates, and many of the country's 25.6 million voters are expected to make it to the polls. For safety, the United Nations has deployed its largest force, 17,000 troops to maintain order. Friday, rallies were held across the nation, as campaigning is prohibited on Saturday, and on Sunday the polls open. Organizer's hope Friday's rallies are less violent than those on Thursday, which say clashes with government security forces and opposition leaders.
