Typhoon "Kaemi" Leaves 11 Dead In China
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Beijing, China (AHN) - Typhoon "Kaemi" slammed into China's Fujian province Tuesday leaving behind 11 people dead and widespread flooding in the southeastern country. The official Xinhua News Agency said the typhoon, packing winds of 120 kilometers an hour near the center, was downgraded to a tropical storm Wednesday, but caused some 750,000 to be displaced because of the heavy rains. In the Jiangxi province, seven people were reported dead while 18 others were still missing. The national natural disaster reduction committee reported four others were killed in two landslides in southern Guangdong province and the southern province of Hainan, with another person missing. Xinhua said seven people were missing in central China's Hunan province. By Wednesday afternoon, authorities have relocated some 649,000 people in southeast China's Fujian province and 80,000 in the Zhejiang province as flood water continue to rise due to torrential rains. A 200-meter long levee collapsed in Fujian caused by heavy rainstorms, threatening the lives of more than 20,000 people in six villages.
