Update: 12,870 Americans Now Evacuated From Lebanon And Humanitarian Relief
Patricia Shehan - All Headline News Staff Writer Washington DC (AHN) - An American Forces press release currently reports that a total of 12,870 Americans have now been evacuated from the war-torn country of Lebanon. On Tuesday alone, 957 United States (U.S.) citizens were evacuated from Lebanon to Cyprus. The Middle East Crisis between Israel and the Hezbollahs in Lebanon began on July 16. Humanitarian relief, which was much needed in Lebanon, was finally able to be delivered on Tuesday as well. Three medical supply kits were sent by helicopters to Red Cross personnel. These kits will provide enough medicine and supplies for approximately 10,000 people for three months. There are an additional seven kits in Cyprus that will be delivered at a later date. The U.S. Embassy officials in Beirut announced that the last scheduled ship for American evacuations will makes its run on Thursday from Beirut to Cyprus. However, evacuations will continue thereafter only on an emergency basis, which will be determined for each case. According to U.S. Embassy officials, Americans continue to be provided options for evacuation, and state that there are still some Americans in southern Lebanon. These Americans are expected to be sent by bus to the port of Beirut and then evacuated from the country.
