Saudi FM Calls For Truce In Lebanon
Shaveta Bansal - All Headline News Staff Writer London, UK (AHN) - Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister on Tuesday called for an immediate halt of carnage as a step towards establishing sovereignty and regional integrity in war-rattled Lebanon. The comments came after his talks with British Prime Minister Tony Blair in London. Prince Saud al-Faisal said he and Blair shared their view of ceasefire in Lebanon. He said they both agreed that "the real solution is to have Lebanon come back to its sovereignty and territorial integrity, but for that to happen, there is a necessary first step which is a ceasefire to stop the carnage that is happening." However, the Minister detached himself from the attempts by the United States and the United Kingdom to blame Hezbollah for 13 days of incessant Israeli attacks on Lebanon's civilian population and destruction of country's civilian population. "It is not a matter of being critical of Hezbollah," al-Faisal said outside Blair's Downing Street office in London. Hoping that U.S. and U.K. would support Lebanese position, al-Faisal stressed that the need of the hour was to help Lebanon overcome the existing crisis in a way which would "be to the interest of everyone." "The crisis is Lebanon's crisis, not Britain's or Saudi Arabia's or America's crisis. "What we want is to help that country overcome this crisis."
