Report: Israel Not Interested In Ceasefire

Jones - All Headline News Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni Tuesday said the only kind of ceasefire along Israel's northern border that interests her nation is the kind that will result from Hezbollah's inability to continue making war. Speaking to a delegation from the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Livni said a traditional ceasefire will solve nothing, as it will leave Hezbollah in place to fight another day. She said Israel's goals in this conflict are the complete dismantling of Hezbollah as a fighting force and the elimination of any threats emanating from southern Lebanon. During her consultations with Lebanese and Israeli leaders this week, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice took a similar position, stating repeatedly that Washington will not back any deal that fails to deal with the root cause of the current fighting - Hezbollah terrorism.
