Four UN Observers Killed in Lebanon
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - Four members of a United Nations peacekeeping force were killed in southern Lebanon Tuesday in what appeared to be errant Israel Air Force strike on nearby Hezbollah terrorists. Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev issued a statement saying, "Israel sincerely regrets the tragic death of the UN personnel in south Lebanon," and promised a full investigation into the causes that led to the unintentional deaths. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, meanwhile, told reporters in New York that he was still "trying to get the details" about what happened, but did not let that stop him from accusing Israel of "apparently deliberate targeting" the Indian-manned patrol base near the town of Khiyam. Hezbollah has in the past launched rocket attacks on Israel from within United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) bases, prompting Israeli artillery fire on those positions.
