Mubarak Criticizes US Mideast Policy
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Correspondent Cairo, Egypt (AHN) - Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak Tuesday took a swipe at US Middle East policy, before departing for Saudi Arabia to discuss ongoing fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. Reuters quoted Mubarak as saying, "What is happening in the region is destructive chaos, not creative chaos." His remark was seen as a jab at US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's belief that the violence should not be halted until realities in the region have changed, which local commentators have termed the policy of "creative chaos." The administration of President George W. Bush sees Hezbollah's ability to threaten northern Israel as the root cause of the present crisis, and has refused to back any resolution that does not eliminate that threat.
