Philippine Congress Looks To Impeach President Arroyo
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Quezon City, Philippines (AHN) - Pro-administration House Speaker Jose de Venecia announced on Tuesday six complaints seeking to impeach President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on charges of graft and corruption, cheating in the 2004 elections, and others. The six impeachment complaints, which bore the signatures of at least 1,092 individuals, was filed early Tuesday. All the six complaints contain the same charges against Arroyo. A report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer said the latest complaint, filed a day after Arroyo delivered her State of the Nation Address, was endorsed by party-list Representative Joel Villanueva of the Citizen's Battle Against Corruption. Political activist and Inquirer columnist Randy David also went to the House to verify his signature on the third complaint filed by Caloocan Bishop Deogracias Iniguez and endorsed by Akbayan Representative Loreta Ann Rosales on June 28. Villanueva told reporters, "This is not just about picking up an old fight but it is reminding this administration especially this government about transparency, accountability and responsibility." In her Address, Arroyo taunts her critics and said her administration was "game" for "those want to pick up old fights."
