UK Police Arrest 13 Over Web Child Pornography
Richard Rittierodt - All Headline News Staff Writer London, England (AHN) - 13 men and women were arrested on Tuesday by British police as part of an international investigation into child pornography Web sites. Even though most of the people arrested are believed to be users of the sites, three of them are believed to be masterminding the sites. The raids were part of the first operation by Britain's Child Exploitation and Online Protection Center, set up earlier this year to tackle child abuse on the Internet. Jim Warnock, who heads CEOP's operational response team, said in a statement, "we are saying enough is enough. We will root out those who hide behind complex smokescreens." Warnock also stated that his team will attempt to find the profits created by the Web sites and try to ensure the children pictured are safe. It is the first time arrests have been made in Britain after investigations into pay-per-view online services. The suspects were detained in London, Wiltshire, Surrey, Kent and Greater Manchester.
